I began at Gunbuyer.com in the fall of 2020, working with the Digital Marketing and eCommerce managers, as well as the web development team. My main responsibilities were working with the web team to update the website, and a daily eblast. I updated the physical signage in the store so that more technical product information could be read from across the sales counter, resulting in a better customer experience. When working on digital banners, I was dissatisfied with the apparent choices of using either a heavily cropped product photo, or a very small pixelated one. I found the inconsistent, awkward shapes of different firearms made them difficult to fit in the small dimensions of most ad placements, so I began animating them in simple GIFs to fully display the product. In the time that I worked with Gunbuyer, many online customers began leaving reviews stating that this company’s sale listings were more appealing and easier to glean information from than their competitors. I was able to view metrics on data such as open, click, and conversion rates, which I used as a source of continuous feedback on my work. There was a marked improvement in metrics around month 6, due in part to my better understanding of this industry and its unique design language, and also to the contributions of the web team as we improved the website together.
